Blue Tit at New Fancy

It was a morbid day, no sun (there up in them there hills), sorry, I was saying it in broad Gloster. But I caught this in the morning.

Thursday 29 October 2009

Bar-headed Goose at Slimbridge WWT

It was a dismal day, not good for birdwatching or nature. So, I had saved it for this session.

The Marshes, Lydney

The Moorhen
Little Grebe
It's so funny, that I cannot get it right, the photography always comes out a bit hazy. Every time, I feel disorganised, if I dare to say it? Oh, I said it!

Forest of Dean

The Jay is looking for food, like he's supposed to do.
The Nuthatch is hiding from an intruder, a Sparrowhawk maybe. It was a bad morning, light rain and a bit of mist.
And, this is one of those things.........mushrooms!

Painted Lady and Red Admiral (Lydney, The Marshes)

Red Admiral
Painted Lady
Underneath of Painted Lady
It's just like this, a warm and sunshine morning, to bring out the butterflies. It is nearly November, doesn't somebody know that?

The Owl

If you had been waiting for my blog, (unlikely), it was a showery day, and I couldn't take one. So, I have dipped into my past. The Owl is something called (wood owl) or I couldn't remember what it's called.

Canada Geese (Lydney boating lake)

Yes, it WAS an awful morning. But, by 1 o'clock, it started to get some sun.......yipeeeeeee. And, it even brought out the Canada Geese. It still left us with a huge wind!

Friday 23 October 2009

Wood Pigeon (Cyril Hart Arboretum)

It was nearly rain, it had just stopped it. The Wood Pigeon was the best that I can snap off. Not a good day!

Thursday 22 October 2009

Great Spotted Woodpecker

It was full of showers, every time I started to take a picture, down it came stopping any photographing. Still its bound to stop! Well, I couldn't take one, so, here is one from the archives.

Nuthatch (New Fancy)

This is one of my favourites, attacker of all that comes in his way, especially the Tits. But, it looks so furtive.

Fallow Deer, Painted Lady, Desmoiselle Crane..................

Painted Lady butterfly
Fallow Deer
Desmoiselle Crane

What about me, I'm a Common Toad?
It wasn't a nice day, cold and some rain. So, I meant to put these on the blog, but something stopped me. Don't ask me what, because I do not remember! Or they were a bit scrappy.

What's on at New Fancy?

Oh, the autumn leaves
they start dying
until they spring back into life
Green Woodpecker
Great tit

Blackbird (A day at The Marshes in Lydney)

It seems wrong that out of this bird,
Black, bold, a suggestion of dark
Places about it, there yet should come
Such rich music, as though the notes'
Ore were changed to a rare metal
At one touch of that bright bill.
You have heard it often, alone at your desk
In a green April, your mind drawn
Away from its work by sweet disturbance
Of the mild evening outside your room.
A slow singer, but loading each phrase
With history's overtones, love, joy
And grief learned by his dark tribe
In other orchards and passed on
Instinctively as they are now,
But fresh always with new tears.

A poem by Ronald Stuart Thomas

A female Wigeon (Cannop Ponds)

This one isn't very good, occasionally it's good with the weather, but not when I to photograph something. My excuse for bad photographs. Anyway, it was the only first to appear in my blog.

Thursday 15 October 2009

Hooded Vulture (ICBP)

That is the best looking of all the birds of prey? I took that one at International Centre for the Birds of Prey. It is an old photograph in June 2009; and it was drizzling here on October 15. What a load of rubbish I speak or write.

Butterflies in October

Painted Lady
Speckled Wood
Red Admiral
Large White
It's a butterfly invasion......in October?

Monday 12 October 2009

Grey Wagtail (Cannop Ponds to Boysgrave)

It was a superb day, sunshine everywhere. But, this was the only subject of the day, a Grey Wagtail. It was half hidden by the tree. Ah, I will get a better one.

Common Crossbill (Boys Grave, Forest of Dean)

The Common Crossbill has been on my blog before, but it looks better than the other one. This bird is so meticulous at feeding. He would go to a place where there is a pine cone, take it back to where he'd been the last time, and would eat the seeds from the cone. After which he would drop it. I hope that it doesn't drop it on somebody head!
This he will do it for a long time.

Peregrine Falcon

Here we are, not only is it raining, but it's blooming cold! But, at least I can enjoy myself with a picture of a Peregrine Falcon. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH that's better!
